Seneca Healthcare District will launch a new electronic health record (EHR) system on Monday, June 5. The new EHR will replace our outdated system and provide patients with a streamlined and secure way to manage their health and wellness information electronically.

“We’re excited to implement this upgraded system. The EHR system is designed to offer our community a new, efficient patient portal and enhanced technology and security,” said Shawn McKenzie, CEO of Seneca Healthcare District. “Our entire team has been working diligently over the past year to bring this new system online and we are thankful for their dedication and effort as we reach our go-live date for this conversion. The transition to “Cerner” EHR is a major milestone for Seneca Healthcare.”

When the system goes live, patients may notice that a little more time is needed at their first several appointments as staff learns to work with the new EHR. “We’re putting in extra hours and have additional staff resources to make sure everything goes smoothly, but we do expect a few delays as we get our new system up and running,” said Shawn. “We want to thank everyone for their patience in advance as we make this essential technologic upgrade.”

Once the system is up and running, patients can look forward to an enhanced registration and check-in process, an easy-to-use patient portal that also provides a simple way to view and pay their bill.

“The new Cerner EHR will have all the information for visits taking place on or after June 5, 2023, for an individual patient on one platform.” said Steve Boline, CFO of Seneca Healthcare District. “With this new system, all billing will transition to a new outside company called R1. They will be available to assist with billing inquiries and payments for services rendered on or after June 5, 2023. The previous billing system, utilizing the billing company HRG, will remain active for patients to make inquiries and payments for services prior to June 5, 2023. If you obtained care at Seneca before and after June 5th, it is possible that you may receive statements/payment demands from both companies for a short period of time. Seneca’s website will be updated to include links to both online bill payment options.”

The Cerner CommunityWorks platform was selected because it is specifically designed to meet the needs of critical access and community hospitals. With this platform, patient records will be more readily available. The system will also provide better access to patient record sharing to and from out-of-network providers.

With the installation of Cerner CommunityWorks, hospital and clinic patients will have access to a new fully integrated patient portal called “MySeneca”, offering a single source to view lab results, review their most recent trip to the doctor’s office or learn what to expect at an upcoming appointment and directly message their provider. The previous patient portal is expected to stay live for the next 6 months.
