What is a QCD?

A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) allows individuals aged 70½ or older to donate directly from their IRA to a qualified nonprofit, such as Seneca Healthcare Foundation, without counting the distribution as taxable income.’

Benefits of Giving via QCD

  • Tax Advantage: QCDs can satisfy all or part of your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) without increasing your taxable income.
  • No Itemization Needed: You receive the tax benefit even if you don’t itemize deductions.
  • Direct Impact: Your gift supports healthcare services and community wellness in the Lake Almanor region.

Eligibility

  • Must be age 70½ or older at the time of the distribution.
  • Must donate from a traditional IRA (not a 401(k), 403(b), or other retirement plan).
  • Maximum annual QCD limit is $100,000 per individual.

How to Make a QCD

  2. Notify the Foundation of your intent so we can properly acknowledge your gift.
  3. Ensure the check is made payable to Seneca Healthcare Foundation, not to you personally.

Important Notes

  • QCDs must be completed by December 31 to count for the current tax year.
  • Consult your financial advisor or tax professional to confirm eligibility and benefits.
  • You cannot receive any goods or services in exchange for a QCD.
