Preventable Diseases

Seneca Healthcare District has a comprehensive Infection Prevention Program to address detection, prevention and control of infections.

Goals of the program are to:

1. Decrease the risk of infection to patients and personnel.

2. Monitor for occurrence of infection and implement appropriate control measures.

3. Identify and correct problems relating to infection prevention practices.

4. Ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations relating to infection prevention.

These goals are accomplished by surveillance of infection among patients and personnel; implementation of control measures to prevent the spread of infections by the use of standard precautions and other barriers, appropriate treatment and follow-up, and employee work restrictions for illness; and the prevention of infection by education of staff and patients on the risk of infection and practices to decrease risk.

The Infection Prevention Committee meets on a regular basis to review reports of infections, review policies and procedures, provide input on the direction of the Infection Prevention Program, and recommend action and control measures when needed.

Seneca Healthcare District follows the recommendations and regulation of Plumas County Public Health, California Department of Public Health, and Centers for Disease Control.
